DeviceFreedom Tab & Pro vs. DIY

Updated February 21, 2026

devicefreedom-os is designed for DeviceFreedom Tab and DeviceFreedom Phone, where it includes first-class support for all features. On other devices, it's freely available with core functionality, but support and feature availability are best-effort due to hardware differences.

Why the difference?

We build devicefreedom-os around our own hardware so we can:

  • Ensure compatibility — features like external storage, Wi-Fi, and FailSafe storage depend on specific hardware and drivers that we can only guarantee on DeviceFreedom Tab and Pro.
  • Optimize performance — the software is tuned specifically for our hardware, delivering better speed and reliability.
  • Innovate faster — focusing on a single hardware platform lets us ship new features, test thoroughly, and push updates more quickly.
